Chiwas specializes in manufacturing Low Tension Cables with PVC or XLPE insulation, designed for voltage grades up to 1.1 KV, and compliant with various Indian and International Standard Specifications. Additionally, Chiwas produces other types of cables, which can be found at the end of this catalog.
XLPE stands for cross-linked polyethylene or vulcanized polyethylene, with the primary material being low-density polyethylene. This thermoplastic material is made up of long chains of hydrocarbon molecules. At higher temperatures, these molecules tend to shift relative to each other, making the material more deformable and eventually melting around 110°C. Through a process akin to rubber vulcanization, polyethylene molecules can be cross-linked.
This procedure creates chemical bonds at intervals along the long molecular chains, resulting in a “ladder” structure that minimizes slippage between molecules. Consequently, cross-linked material becomes heat-resistant and retains its integrity at elevated temperatures. Additionally, it exhibits improved resistance to stress cracking and enhanced durability in hot air environments. Importantly, this structural change does not negatively impact its electrical properties.
Conductor
Conductors are made from Electrolytic grade high pure aluminium conforming are compact circular or compact sector-shaped.
Laying Up
In Multi-Core Cables, Cores Are Laid up As per The Above Colour Scheme.
Inner Sheath
Laid-Up Cores Are Encased in Thermoplastic Material to Safeguard Them from Mechanical Damage.
Armouring
Armouring Serves as A Protective Layer Over the Inner Sheath to Prevent Mechanical Damage. Typically, This Armouring Consists of Galvanized Steel Wires or Strips. In Single-Core Cables Utilized in The Ac System, Non-Magnetic Hard-Drawn Aluminum Wires Are Employed for Armouring. for Diameters Over the Inner Sheath that Do Not Exceed 13 mm, round steel wires are used; for diameters above 13 mm, flat steel strip armouring is applied. Additionally, round wires of various sizes can be supplied upon specific request.
